Offset GM tie rod end with 7/8"-18 left hand threads. This end has the same taper as GM tie rods, but the tapered shaft is offset one inch from the center line of the 7/8"-18 shank. If you're in a situation where the tie rod is hitting on the differential cover, coil buckets, or other parts, this can be the easy way out. It will bump the center line of the tie rod out 1". These utilize the same metal on metal design as our other ends (read the paragraph below the specifications for more details on this). We've improved on the previous design so that these will clear the rims on a Jeep TJ with the stock rims.
Specifications:
- Overall length: 5-1/8"
- Socket head diameter: 2" diameter, 2-1/2" at widest point
- Taper: Chevy tie rod , 1-1/2" over 12"
- Shank: 7/8"-18 left hand, 2-3/8" of threads
- Jam nut: 7/8"-18 left hand, 1-1/4" wrench size
Well, if you've read this far, you're interested in what sets Parts Mike's ends apart from the competition. Read on, you won't be disappointed. Our ends are specifically manufactured to our specifications. Our design utilizes a chromoly shaft and metal on metal ball and socket design. You read that right; chromoly shaft and metal on metal ball and socket. All the ends you find at the auto parts store use a plastic bushing between the ball and the socket. When you're driving down the trail and smack a rock with your tire, the shock load through the steering system can cause that plastic to dent/deform/break. What you end up with is a loose tie rod end. Our metal on metal design (forged outer housing and chromoly ball and shaft) means no plastic to break. Inside the socket is a spring that preloads the ball (similar to the upper kingpin in a Dana 60). This keeps the end tight as the parts wear. All of this was done to increase strength, but we also kept an eye on function during the design. The end was designed to achieve more angle than other tie rod ends. Additionally the head size was reduced to work with steering arms that have two holes on the same end. It's the best of all worlds.
